- Stain woodwork in natural tones to add warmth to a room, or use a darker stain to create a formal, elegant look.
- Choose poplar if you intend to paint the woodwork—it has a consistent grain which makes painting a breeze.
- A chair rail should be placed one-third of the distance from the floor to the ceiling.
- Use rosettes at the intersections of mouldings to eliminate the need for mitered corners.
